Blog #10

I can definitely say that one thing I found interesting when reading my classmates blogs were that they either wrote a lot of the same things that I did or whatever they did say I was in agreence with. I can not think of one blog where I did not agree with something someone said, which I found to be pretty cool. One skill that I actually would like to learn more about would be about the second powerpoint assignment. I was very interested as to how we made it into a "Who wants to be a millionare" game and would love to do another thing like that.
I feel like I will be able to achieve more in my educational career by remember not one but all of the techniques we have learned so far and applying them in all of my future teaching jobs!

There are actually two resources that I found very interesting and that I know for sure I will be able to use when I become a teacher. The first being powerpoint, I love being creative and teaching people things in a fun and definitely non-boring way. By using powerpoint presentations in teaching I feel like will grab the students attention and make it more personable.
Secondly, I had never done any work in the excel program and to be honest I was a little confused last class but by the end of the class period I actually understood what I was doing. Depending upon what grade I teach I feel like the excel program would be very helpful.
I can't think of a brand new skill I would like to learn but I do know that I would definitely be interested in learning more about the mircosoft excel program.
Some ways that I might achieve my future educational technology-related goals would be by possibly taking a different computer course or even learning news things from future teachers and my peers.

After reading the very first line in this chapter I was already drawn into a new subject, one in which I didn't know a lot about. This sentence reading that computer security risk is any event or action that has potential of causinga loss of computer equipment, software, data and information, or processing capability. Some different security issues are as follows, biometric devices and firewalls, this protecting against software and information theft as well as total system failure. Lastly, in the chapter I learned that computer ethics are the moral guidelines that govern the use of computers, networks and information systems.
Since our last blog posting I learned more about making powerpoint presentations. I wasn't even aware that you could make powerpoints into a game, I had so much fun with that and I know that I will be able to use it in the future with my students.
Well as far as my life goes, I'm going home this weekend and I am super excited about it and I going to the rascal flatts concert so I just can'teven wait!!

In order for most to protect their computer against computer theft there are a few different precautions that yo could take. You can have battery backup or possibly a surge protector. Ethics are the standards that determine whether an action is good or bad and computer ethics are the moral guidlines that govern the use of computers, networks, and information systems. Before reading this chapter I wasn't really aware of these ethics and I now know more about the five areas of computer ethics. These five areas being, unauthorized use of computers, hardware, software and information theft, information privacy, copyright and the existance of abjectionable materials on the internet.
Since last class I learned a lot more about creating powerpoint presentations. I was in a business magnet in high school and we were always involved with projects on the computer involving powerpoint. Even though after four years of practice I thought I knew everthing there was to know about powerpoint I definitely learned a lot more about different layouts ant animation.
I am so so so excited about the homecoming game this weekend mostly because it is an eight o'clock game so we won't be dying of heat!

Through out all of ours years of elementary, middle and high school we always hear the saying "we are going by a certain curriculum". I always thought I knew exactly what this meant but until reading chapter six I was unaware of the true definition. Curriculum is defined as the knowledge, skills and performance standards students are expected to aquire in particular grade levels. Also anothe fact about curriculum is that is has certain curriculum standards, these documents are called curriculum frameworks or curriculum guides. Another topic that stood out to me was the learning process. One theory of learning is authentic learning experiences, these demonstrate real-life connections by associating the concept being taught with a real life experience or event. This largely stood out to be mostly because it was new to my vocabulary but also because it was cool and interesting.
Since our last posting the skills that I have learned are definitely pertaining to Wiki! I learned a lot about wiki sites last class, not only making one but about the informationg as well.
My week has been pretty stressful but I am really excited because my sorority got second in greek idol and volleyball and we got first in cheers for charity!! GO ADPi!! oh and im really excited for the miami game, Go noles!

In chapter five I learned a lot about both Digital Media Applications as well as Educational Software Application. As far as media applications some of the things that stood out to me most were that many digital media applications are used for edutainment, which I have never heard of until I read this book and this chapter. Edutainment is an experience meant to be both educational and entertaining which is basically a blend of the two big things in my life. Also in media applications virtual reality is one thing that has always fascinated me throughout my entire life. I love 3D movies for example and the futureistic games they have at some arcades. In educational software applications one thing that I learned that I didn't know was that digital media applications enrich the learning process by providing individualized instruction and exploration.
Since our last posting I definitely learned a lot about forms and how to make them. Before our last assignment I had never made and sort of form like that before and I found it interesting to not only be able to make one but to also see the other ones that people had made previously.
This week for me so far has been extremely stressful as far as school goes I have had lots of test and homework and on top of all that it is initation week for my sorority so that is pretty stressfull as well. I know that is will all be worth it though especially when I am officially a sister of Alpha Delta Pi!

When learning about evaluating educational technology I always thought that evaluating was sort of just going through or looking over certain things but by definition from the book I learned that to evaluate educational technology is to determine its value or judge its worth. Also during the process of evaluating it involves determining if certain technology is approriate or if it inhances the teaching and learning process. I also learned that in order to evaluate technology there is the Evaluation Cycle. The cycle goes from before instruction to during instruction to after instruction. Then after that you evaluate and revise.
New skill that I have aquired since our last posting would definitely have to do with having to look up the different websites just as we did last class. Before I was very firmiliar with many websites so that really helped me to explore around the world wide web.
This week for me was pretty good I didn't get to go to the game so that was prety depressing but me and my boyfriend got to just hang out and watch movie and relax for once in our lives so that was nice too. I'm really really excited about parents weekend though, I can't wait to see my parents and eat lots of good food at my sorority house!

Within chapter 2 i obviously learned a lot about the internet, how it works and the different things the it can provide. The internet is rooted in one of the U.s. Department of Defense's
"Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA). Something else that I learned was was that the internet works together to transfer data all around the world. Web pages are another big part of of the internet, they can contain text, graphics, video and sound. one fact that really struck me in this chapteris when it said at the end that within a few years the Web will operate at speeds 10,000 times faster than today. This is really incredible to me seeing as there are already up to fast paces.
Skills that I have aquired since our last posting definitely are having to do with the charts that we made last class. I had never made a chart like that before let alone seen one and not only did I learn a lot from making them but I also had a lot of fun!
I am very excited to see the new things we are going to be learning about the internet and everything having to do with it.

Major topics of chapter four that especially interested me were about input and output devices. Input devices include keyboards, pointing devices, scanners as well as digital cameras. All of these things in which are used for students with sspecial needs, I was unaware of this until reading this chapter. Also, another fact that I found interesting was that there are between one hundred and one, and one hundred and two keys on a key board and I thought that was cool because I had never really taken the time to count them before. Output, such as Text, Graphics, Audio, and Video are udes through out devices such as monitors and other display devices, also can be used in any size monitor such as a computer or a television.
Some skills that I have learned since our last class definitely involve a lot having to do with creating the news letters last class. There were many different things that I was unaware of how to do, for example I was struggling making the columns on different areas of the page. Also I finally figured out how get different pictures as well as a cool border.
Everything that I have learned so far in this class so far whether I have known it or not I know will help me so so much in the future in my teaching and educational career. i know that all of these skills are going to help me greatly in being able to teach to the best of my abilities!

In chapter three there were many things that I learned that I was unaware of, especially having to do with application software, as well as starting it, graphics software and multi media software. For example, I never new how much was put into the application software. It states in the text that application software is also known as application programs, and also that there are five categories within the application. As far as graphics software this is how you create documents called presentations. These presentations are used by many schools inApple Works, Microsoft office and Powerpoint, one of the best parts about these presentations is the ability to use clip art. Lastly, many people in the workforce use powerful software allowing them to work with multimedia.
I was very oblivious to many of the factors before I read this chapter. I have learned that there are many different programs and software that I was totally unaware of. A good example would be starting an application software and all that it consists of. Since my last posting not only have I aquired all of these new skills from chapter three but I also have learned more about the desktop and different things that the applications have to offer.
All of these things can most deffinitely affect my education because, now knowing these things I am able to not only know more about the computer but I am able to do things at a much faster pace. I am excited to see the new things that I am going to learn in the future.

Blog Post #1

The areas disscussed in chapter one were very helpful in connecting what we will be needing to know for the classroom and also for our lives. It talks about how much we use computers in our everyday lives and sometimes tend to not even realize it. It shows how people everywhere rely on computers to do their work in every field of work. Chapter one really helped me to see how I can really put forth a lot of these tactics in helping me do better in this class. One thing that really stood out to me in chapter one was the section titled "Computing in the Digital Age". This was interesting to me because it talked about how computers help in getting students to be creative and possibly find a profession that they are interested in.
Since my last posting I definitely look at the computer a lot differently. I tend to get confused very easily, so when we started this whole blog thing I thought I was going to so confused. Of course at first I was very confused but after this post I have learned more about the way the whole blog thing works and i hope that by the end of this course I am able to say that for many other things as well.
Well as I mentioned before I have always been quite confused by everything having to do with computers in general. I am a very open minded person on the other hand, so I hope to be able to get a lot out of this program and learn about things that I never in a million years though I could do.

My only real prior experience using technology such as Word, excel and Powerpoint would be in high school. I was involved in the magnet program at Palm Beach Gardens High School for all four years and we had a couple of Excel assignments and many Word and Power point assignments. i would have to say that the powerpoint assignments were definitely my favorite because I wa able to show my own creativity and using Word throughout high school has helped me at many other times in my life.
As I said earlier I feel pretty confident in both Word and Powerpint but I know that Excel is for sure a downfall for me in the computer world. I can sometimes tend to be unorganized and I can get confused easily so I hope to learn more about Excel so that I am able to apply it to other aspects of my life. I also feel like I only know the basics of Powerpoint and I would really love to get to know all of the other interesting things that it has to offer.
I have always been a hands-on, visual learner and I can definitely say that today showed me how true that really is. I find things to be a lot easier when it is righ tin front of me and I am able to work my way through it. When I am just being told to do something it is hard for me to grasp the concept so I hope to continue in this class by continuing to use my visual skills.
